The Colts have a lot to prove when they take on the New Orleans Saints tonight. Last year was last year, a very good year for Indy when they won Super Bowl XLI over a dreaded Midwestern rival, those good ol' Chicago Bears. But that was then & this is now; tonight is Indianapolis' first test of faith & a pretty good one at that.
Sure, we've got Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne & Joseph Addai back in the mix; you can't go wrong with each of these guys on offense. But on the offensive line, they're definitely going to be missing now-retired Tarik Glenn; hopefully Tony Ugoh knows what's up, as he knows Glenn's shoes are very big ones to fill for sure. If that's not enough, Ugoh's got a lot of growing up to do in Glenn's old spot as well.
On defense, three key players from last year are sorely going to be missed as CB Nick Harper bolted for Tennessee; LB Cato June headed off to Tampa Bay while Jason David is now with - you guessed it right - the Saints. It's not that the Colts are going to miss them that much as they've had success year in, year out with tried & tested players thrown into the mix...and amazing results. The next question is, how will they respond to these key losses on defense? It's time that the replacements, first game or no, step up & play all out; New Orleans is one team which is going to be a daunting task to defend with QB Drew Brees & Reggie Bush leading the way as usual. And can Indy make their horrible run defense from last year a distant memory? Tonight they could do just that...if they're ready to go.
Comments aside, the Colts have got their work cut out for them. But if Tony Dungy & company have got Indy fired up & ready to play, things could turn out awesome in the end. Yet this first game to kick off the regular season is going to be an important one in every aspect of the word "important."
Go Colts!!
