This past weekend was a pretty eventful one for three of the more storied college football powerhouses in the nation, but not for the reasons which you might expect.
First of all, I thought Michigan would redeem itself after losing to a second-tier team called Appalachian State. But no: they got thoroughly dismantled by the Oregon Ducks 39-7 @ Ann Arbor & are leaving plenty of Wolverine fans in a state of unease & discontent. And with good reason: Notre Dame's next on the schedule & things aren't exactly looking promising for the Big Blue right now.
Secondly, while Notre Dame's still fresh on my mind, the Irish got hammered 31-10 by Penn State @ JoePa's place. Where's Brady Quinn when you need him most?
Third, the Miami Hurricanes got clobbered by Oklahoma 51-13...one of the worst defeats they've had for ages. Right now, the Sooners are looking pretty good in who knows how many aspects of the game but until they start Big 12 play, I'm not guaranteeing that they'll do it all this year. Yet from the looks of things on Saturday, they could make a racket this season. On the other hand, the Hurricanes are total blah.
On the upside, Ohio State won; LSU manhandled VA Tech; Washington beat Boise State (whoa!!), Indiana won again (awesome!!), & Ball State defeated Eastern Michigan...what an crazy weekend in the world of college football. But then again, such is life on Saturdays!!
