A Roller Coaster Ride for the ages

Up & down, up & down.

These words could best characterize the Chicago Cubs' season in their attempts to gain a foothold as leaders of the NL Central. For much of 2007, they've had to contend with them Milwaukee Brewers & for a short spell (in fact, not too long ago!!) they've had the Cards hot on their tail. And despite having to tie for 1st or lose their 1st-place perch here & there to the Brewers on numerous occasions, somehow they've endured & regained their touch just in time to make a statement that they're not going to back down so easily. Now they're 1 1/2 games ahead of Milwaukee with over a dozen or so more games to play. The St. Louis Cardinals, the Cubbies' opponent for this weekend, are a good 6 games behind the pack, just 2 ahead of the Reds (who earlier this season were the worst team in MLB...not anymore!!)...you do the math here. But at any rate, with the aforementioned number of games to play, things could look rather interesting: the outright winner of the NL Central gets a trip to the NL playoffs while the wild card bid is up for grabs & may the top team take all.

And for the Chicago Cubs? Let's hope that they keep on a roll; otherwise it could be a long road to claim the NL Central division & with it a chance to make some noise in the playoffs. But wait: the Cubbies are making noise already, aren't they?
